Apteronotus albifrons. A jet-black knifefish with white bands near the tail. It glides forwards and backwards using a long fin along its belly. Nocturnal and fascinating to watch.
Needs a large, dimly lit tank with a hiding tube or cave and very clean, well-oxygenated water. Uses weak electrical signals to navigate. Grows large, so plan for the adult size.
Carnivore. Frozen bloodworm, brine shrimp and mysis, then larger foods as it grows. Feed after lights-out.
Very rarely bred in home aquariums.
